Endangered Species- Class 2

Endagered Species- plants or animals that will soon die
There are 41,415 species in the world and 16,306 are endangered.

Causes:
1. human population- more people take thier homes and take their food
2. pollution- the chemicals we use
3. hunting

What can we do to help?
1. recycle
2. keep neighborhood clean
3. dont buy products made from leather, fur, etc.

Komodo Dragon

The komodo dragon lives in Indonesia and is 100 million years old. It is a reptile and carnivore. They live for over 30 years. They are 3 meters long and weigh 150kg. There are 3000 to 5000 komodo dragons on the islands of Komodo. Its scientific name is Varanus komodoensis.

The snow leopard lives in the mountain of centre Asia . It eat small rodents ( for example marmots). The scientific name is Uncia uncia. It’s hunting for the Chinese medicine. Now there are approximately 6000 snow leopards.


Red Panda

Red Pandas live in the bamboo forests of the Himalayas. They like to climb on to trees. Red Pandas have red-brownish fur and the face has patches of white. They are nocturnal. Red Pandas are endangered because humans are taking their land.



Bald Eagle

Bald eagles, the American symbol, live near western Canada and Alaska.
Adult eagles have black-brown bodies, yellow beaks and legs, and white heads and tails.
It takes 4 years for the feathers
to develop.
These birds of prey often eat fish and dead animals.
The bald eagles is a big bird


Giant Panda

The Giant Panda is a mammal classified in the bear family. Though belonging to the order Carnivora, the panda has a diet which is 99% bamboo. The Giant Panda is represented on money in China. The Giant Panda weighs 65-110 kg. The Giant Panda is native to central-western and southwestern China.

Grey Wolf

The grey wolf is a mammal. They are carnivores and eat herbivores. They live in the forest, desert, mountains, taiga, tundra, grasslands and urban areas. They are 1.3 - 2 meters long.
